Circle Golf Day, 11th September 2010

Thanks are due once again to Pat Lee for organising the annual Circle Golf tournament, held at the Ramsdale Golf Club in Calverton.

Although numbers were a little down on last year, the two competitions – for Catenians and for Guests – were keenly contested by all those who entered. The afternoon was clear and sunny, if a little breezy so conditions were better than anticipated in the light of recent rain.

The eventual winner of the Guest’s trophy was Lee who managed to hold off a spendid challenge from Juan Crowe. Juan had one of the best starts on the front nine and had racked up a convincing lead by the halfway stage. However, a couple of loose strokes reduced his lead to the point where he had to concede to Lee over the last couple of holes.

On the other hand, his dad Peter managed to power into a fantastic lead which he maintained all the way round. At the end of the evening he was very pleased to take home the trophy for Catenians once more – Peter has been a previous winner on a number of occasions.

Once all the players had finished their rounds, we gathered in the Club bar for a bite to eat and to distribute prizes. Everyone was a winner in some way and each took home a small golfing based prize. The magnificent trophies were handed on to the winners (see photos above) and we departed on our separate ways in good spirits.
