Mansfield and Dukeries celebrate 50th Clergy Night with Bishop and 18 priests

In December 2011 Mansfield and Dukeries Circle held their 50th Clergy Night celebration since their inauguration in 1961. This event was organised for many years by the late Bro Eugene Lee who was a Founder Member and a stalwart servant of the Circle.

To mark this significant event, our current organiser Bro Richard Dillon invited not only the current priests from our local Sherwood Deanery but many who have served in the deanery over the preceding 50 years; Bishop Malcolm McMahon, Bishop of Nottingham, graciously accepted his invitation to join his brother priests, members of the Circle and their guests.

The night was a tremendous success with 18 members of the clergy attending among a total of 70. Bro President Martin Dillon proposed a toast to our guests, following which Bishop Malcolm addressed the gathering and expressed his warm support for the Association, which he knows well through many personal connections, as well as his thanks for having the opportunity to meet his fellow priests in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Following a toast to the Circle, proposed by Fr Michael O’Donoghue, Dean of the Sherwood area, Vice-President Malcolm Powell gave a vote of thanks.
