Circle Visit to Leeds, Part 3 – Monday 9th January 2017
It was raining on Monday morning but that hadn’t dampened anyone’s spirits since we had two dry days to do most of the things we wanted to do.
Since some places had been closed on Sunday, during our tour, many went off to the Indoor Market to get a flavour of its Victorian splendour, a few went to the Royal Armouries for the morning and then, after lunch, all of the party made their way home.
The weekend proved to be so successful that everyone wants to go away again next January – it was decided that Newcastle-upon-Tyne would be the best option. The arrangements would be very similar (Friday to Sunday with two nights’ bed, breakfast and evening meal for around £149; we will try to meet up with some of the Newcastle Catenians; have a short walk to see some of the interesting sites; and make the most of opportunities to explore other things, like shops etc., on your own).
The final indignity for John Fitzpatrick was to find his car had been surrounded by roadworks barriers and he had to get it released by a group of Irish navvies – see photo below – but it hasn’t reduced our desire to have another great time away with the rest of the group. Here’s to next year!
