Senior Citizens’ Afternoon Tea – Sunday 2nd July 2017
Our President, John, organised an afternoon tea for senior citizens across the parishes that make up our Circle’s patch; it was held in the Parish Hall of St Philip Neri Church. On the day, over 90 people attended, made up of invited guests, helpers from the Chaplaincy team at All Saints’ Catholic School, some of the local clergy and several members of the Circle.
Everyone was welcomed by the Chaplaincy team members who handed out a drink of either champagne or orange juice for starters. On each table were plates of sandwiches and scones, as well as cakes stands weighed down with an array of brownies, cakes and sweets. Tea and coffee were available and everybody was very satisfied by the end.
When the eating and chatting was over, Peter led us in a sing-a-long of old-time hits, accompanied by Margaret on the piano and ably assisted by Maureen who kept us all in tune.
The event was another of our joint ventures with All Saints Catholic School as there had already been a “Mock Interviews” day and we are supporting them in their Public Speaking selection in the Autumn Term.
Our thanks go to John, Ev and their many helpers who gave up Sunday morning to prepare the room and the sandwiches, as well as do the washing and clearing up so the parish room was left in pristine condition. Feedback from the attendees suggested that they had a thoroughly wonderful time and would be thrilled if another took place in the future.
