Presentation of cheques from Bursary Fund
During a recent function at All Saints Catholic Academy, sixteen post-16 students received cheques from the Catenian Bursary Fund to assist in covering the costs of assisting at the Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes. Among the sixteen are a few students who are not eligible for Bursary Fund assistance which is reserved for Catholic students; in order to balance this inequity, the Circle agreed to sponsor these students so they would not be disadvantaged.
Included in the photo are 13 of the students who will be travelling to Lourdes in July, along with All Saints Lay Chaplain Vicky Mullen; School Chaplain Father Frank Higgins; President of Mansfield and Dukeries Circle, Brother John Fitzpatrick; Head Teacher, Paul Greig and Brother Paul Williamson.
Brothers John and Paul have been liaising with the school and promoting the benefits of the Bursary Fund to all of the post-16 students. The Fund exists to help young Catholics from across the Catenian world to volunteer and help people less fortunate than themselves. Some of these young people join organised groups from different charities, often working in developing countries on projects such as school building, well digging, teaching and so on; others undertake individual projects; and others are enabled to join their diocesan Lourdes pilgrimages. For further information, you can find plenty of interesting material on the Bursary Fund site which can be accessed by clicking here.
We hope that they all have a fulfilling time helping with the sick and disabled participants and that some of them can attend one of our meetings later in the year to give us a talk about their perspectives.
