Roddy Beare RIP – 19 April 2023
Mansfield and Dukeries Circle were sad to learn that overnight, on 18/19 April 2023, one of our biggest characters from Mansfield Circle passed into eternal life. He will be greatly missed by his closest friends and by his companion, Carol, who has been with him since he moved back to London.
Roddy was President of Circle in 1982-83 and was very well known across the Province, having made lifelong friendships with so many members of the Association. He was certainly a “larger than life” character who would fill a room with his tales and laughter, with the twinkle in his eye and his wicked sense of humour.
We will all remember him from his 90th birthday party at Simon’s house (see photo above – thanks to Peter for sharing it earlier today) to which he arrived very late, after getting lost on the exit from the North Circular and ending up somewhere unexpected, where he regaled us all with his latest exploits and opinions about all kinds of matters. Likewise, we will now miss the Christmas phone call where he wanted to catch up with all the latest news and juicy gossip from Mansfield.
When there is time to gather some further information and write a more complete appreciation of his life and contribution to Mansfield and Dukeries Circle, this very brief note will be updated.
For now, let us all remember him at his peak. RIP, Roddy.
